The Autumnal Equinox has passed, and Fall has arrived! Soon the leaves will begin to fall. For those of us fortunate enough to live (or work) out in the country, will begin to smell leaves burning, as well as the winter-long fragrance of wood smoke! For those of us UNfortunate enough to live in the city, we will hear the racket of the leaf blowers for hours on end. Even so, magic is in the air and the surprises of falls' blasts of leaf colors, are just around the corner!

Holiday Tours has a line-up of tours that will carry some surprises as well.

Holiday Tours suggests a little 'sand and song' on our Carolina Opry Legends in Concert! This trip departs the day after Thanksgiving, on November 25, making our way down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!

To list a few of the performers you'll see; Madonna, Dolly Parton, Cher, & Elton John! Ok, NOT the real ones, but performers that not only look like them, but sound like them! These performers are really amazing 'chameleons'! Other impersonations of the late, greats are Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland & the amazing Nat King Cole and many more.

Leaving the same day, November 25, 2005, but in an entirely different direction, in more ways than one, is our annual Pennsylvania Dutch at Christmas tour! New for this tour, you will be lodging in a Resort Hotel, this surprise we will leave for you to discover on your own! The the last evening you will see 'The Miracle of Christmas'. A beautiful, enduring story of love will be presented in a dramatic and memorable production! You will begin your return trip home on the 27th.

Trivia Contest

No winner this time, thank you everyone for playing and look for our next trivia contest to come in  our December E-Newsletter.

Want to play?  The winner will win a Holiday Tours Bag. You must come by our office to pick up your prize, or we will put it on your next trip. There will be only 1 winner per month. This month's winner will be announced in our next E-News Letter. This month's question is:

What is the history of the North Carolina town named 'Harbinger'?

Here is something like what we were looking for:

Harbinger is a small community located in Currituck Co. The Harbinger, NC Post Office was established on April 13, 1886 Mr. Hezekiah Owens became the postmaster. Originally it was part of Powells Point and also included Point Harbor. According to old tales, the name, Harbinger, was taken from a sailing ship by that name that used Hall's Harbor as a place of call. Hall's Harbor was an important harbor facility for boats bringing in provisions & merchandise as well as a shipping place for local produce. The pioneer settlers were mostly English but also quite a few Scots & Irish peoples migrated there from around the Cape Fear region. Although the definition of the word harbinger is-"foreshadows a future event; omen", this tiny community is said to be a 'pleasant, friendly community steeped in history that is not too obvious to the casual observer.'

"Lady Fall"
by Carol La Scuola Salazar, August 23, 2002

She flies in on mysterious wings, still,
As "Adolescent Summer" suffocates all in his anxious wake,
"Lady Fall", flirtatiously makes her perennial debut,
Drifting past with her delicate cool, rustling leaves,
Lifting withered spirits she arrives.

Dressed in amber warmed shades, she swirls coquettishly,
Bringing rejuvenated life to dried and crackling things. . . .
She skates past, gathering wood smoke and burnt orange,
In her widening cape, glazing pumpkins and gourds with frost.
"Lady Fall" shakes out Halloween, caught in her skirts,
Warming hearts with her glistening hair, she will be gone before
"Madame Winter's" elegant arrival.
